First College Win

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Today started off pretty nice, got up early to have breakfast at UC and then went back to bed. After boning for lunch, went to Target with Kenny and Sam to pick up some snicksnacks and I got a ton so were set for a while. I was nervous for today's race because I didn't know what to expect at all. When we got to Goodman we hung out in the locker room for a little before walking over to the football stadium locker rooms. We warmed up three miles from inside there, and my legs were feeling alright. Not great but I kept in mind that I have Pred before when my legs felt like shit. We got back in the locker room and got ready and stuff, putting on timing chips and bib numbers. The freshmen were really nervous today I could tell. I was too though. I kept thinking about a possible 1,2,3 finish. When we got to the starting line I saw mom and pop for the first time and that was honestly great. We did the gauntlet and some strides and I was ready to go. They caught our entire team off guard with the gun shot so we were a few steps behind the rest of the field. Probably didn't make a difference. We wanted a 5:15 first mile but some west chester kid took it out in a 72, and a 5:05. We were okay with that but it wasn't ideal for the entire team. We dropped even more in our second and third miles, hitting 5k in 15:23, and then chilled the last 1000 meters. When I looked back at 5k i realized that Evans, Flach, and I could just jog in because we had dropped everybody by so much. I saw Ty and Sam battling it out with Lafayette's top 2 though back in the distance. We closed the last k very comfortably, talking all the way down the home stretch because the other two wanted me to get my first college win. They let me go ahead in the last 20 meters. Evans said "take it baby". Nice guys. When we turned around I was ecstatic to see Sam cross in 4th and Ty in 5th, three seconds ahead of Lasalle's top guy. Thus we had a perfect score. Mahalsky came in 9th to round out our top six in the top ten. Soltan and Gilboy and Simon also had great races. Stephen didn't race too bad, but Ward was pissed. And so was Russ. These guys will be alright. They just have to learn about college racing. Russ was sick with Lyme disease not too long ago too so he will be fine. We had a pretty long cooldown and then I got to feel what it was like to get an award again. At our tailgate after the mountains looked perfect in the sunset sky. Made me think of how happy I am to be here. Had a hilarious conversation with Pete afterwards, and hung out with Terri and Bill since they came with my parents. Good stuff. Captains night follows. Gonna be ridiculous. Put that one in the books.
