Reset (Merecersburg 2011)

September 24, 2011 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: not memorable, so it must have been good.

Comments:
First XC meet since Battle of the Potomac!!!!! (God it feels like it's been years).

Woke up sore from aquajogging, but I stretched a bunch and fixed most of it. I was super excited for the race, but at the same time I was pretty dang nervous. I was able to find a single seat on the bus to stretch my legs out, which probably saved me a lot of knee pain during the race. Listened to a lot of pump up music to get less nervous, which was successful, until we went to the start line 10 minutes early, and i got completely nervous again.

Did try to keep it conservative in the first mile, which was good because I usually like to go out strong. I actually felt good throughout the entire race, i guess it was just the elation of finally being able to run again. Felt like I gave it my all, which made it really disappointing when I saw my time on the big clock as I finished. If it had been 10 seconds more or less than what I ran i wouldn't have been nearly as aggravated. I'm pretty sure I got the same EXACT time I got in my first ever 5k race freshman year, which was so defeating because its like a year's worth of work and effort did absolutely nothing whatsoever.

The knees didn't hurt until the 3rd mile and even then it was weak enough to not think about. (Finally!!) But after the race, especially the bus ride back, my knees hurt pretty badly. But I iced and stretched extra when I came home, and today (Sunday) they seem to be ok, which was a huge relief.

Even though I was frustrated about the time, I still had fun, and felt good while i was running, (thats what matters, right? Sometimes I'm not so sure....). On the bright side, I ran over a minute faster than I ran at Mercersburg last year, (I had a bad day).

Anyways I'm hoping Emma was right when she said it would take me much less time to go back to what I used to run than it did freshman year. I really would like that to happen, because right now it just feels like someone pressed a big reset button.
