The effects of alcohol on running performance

September 25, 2011 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
I have not lost a 5k since outdoor conference:
Pirates Fun Run
Race For Virginia
Brookline Breeze
Alumni Race (yes, I'm counting it)

And today...

Won the Great Race in 15:15. PR, although I have a slight suspicion I could have gone faster than this last track season given a fast race in good weather. Maybe not though, who knows. All I know is somehow, in a mere 4 months, I feel like an entirely different runner. I'm really hoping the time off after track and the training restart took me to the next level like it has done for me in the past.

Splits: 4:47, 9:50, 15:15. Really turned it on for the downhills, started the celebration from about 100 meters out. Got a huge bottle of champagne for winning, kind of knew about it from the start, so I definitely wanted to bring home that bubbly bottle of booze even though there was no steak to go with it.

This was probably the most meaningful win in my life, and if it weren't for my UAA 3k, this would be the best race of my life thus far.

As always, I ask myself if I'm having fun and is running making me happy?...I think the answer's obvious.
