Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Woke up this morning at 8:30 feeling pretty good, still coughing a bit though. Me and Sam hit lower real quick to get bagels and then bounced up to M&M to meet Ty, Gilboy, and Mahalsky there because we were worried Mahalsky wouldnt be able to find Tremblay. Of course he was late and got M&M mixed up with Hawks Nest. No matter. Recieved a pump up text from Evans right about that time, so we were ready to go. When we got to the locker room, the whole team was pumped up. The course, however, was destroyed. They were putting down wood chips at the end of the quarry loop though. We walked over to the Goodman locker rooms and set up under our tent. I put two half inch spikes in each shoe and helped katie put hers in like the huge burly man that I am. Our warm up actually felt great. I couldnt have felt better. We saw Oklahoma on the way out and I was awestruck. They looked beyond legit. All wearing the same sick warm up shirt with the same sick shorts and black socks. They were intimidating for sure. We saw Dartmouth too, but they were less intimidating. I felt incredible after the warm up, but my timing in getting ready was very off. the start of the race came too quickly. Luckily, Stony Brook, who was next to us, missed the gun and we got a step on them, giving us more room to get in position. Oklahoma screamed to the front, and two africans from UNC Greensboro stormed ahead of even them. The first 400 took a lot out of me. I stared straight into the eye of the mountain hawk on Flach's back and didn't look down. Rome ran with us for a little, as did Luke Arbuckle. At the first turn sign, some guy got pushed into the sign. This was where i saw the UNC guys with a ten second lead on the field not even a half mile into the race. Flach and I went through in 4:53, and I felt shitty for the rest of it. I heard 9:55 at 2 miles, and the quarry loop I started to lose it. I never lost Flach during the race, but we got passed by masses of guys. Ken Bunnell passed me with 4 miles to go, and I felt like I had nothing left. I hoped to god that Evans was doing well at that point. My vision was very clouded at this point. I was beginning to lock up, but the last 800 is flat. I attempted to throw in a surge but it didnt work. I saw Robby Andrews go by with 400 to go, necklace bouncing and everything. At least I wasnt far off of a national champ. I would later find out that he put 13 second on me in those 400 meters. He must have been like sub 60 jesus christ. I stuck one second off of Flach, and thought I saw 25:57 on the clock when I finished. I was in utter disbelief. I sat down for a while with Flach because I couldn't walk. He was mad too. Sam and Ty followed us closely, so we packed up at least. Everybody had different interpretations of what time we ran. I said 25:57 Flach said 26:02 and Ty said 25:54. We could only wait for the results. As it turned out, Flach was 25:44. Me 25:45. Sam 25:47. Tyler 25:54. EVANS 24:25 FOR TENTH! He dropped a monster race against a stacked field. I was amazed by his performance. We got 20th as a team. 5 points behind American and a lot more behind Navy, who get 11th. That 5 points is like nothing in a 402 man race. There were 20 guys between Ty and Sam alone. We kicked the shit out of Maryland and UMBC, which made me feel better. I can't figure our why times were so slow today, they just were. It was also our first hard effort of the season, but whatever we may never know. Only 30 guys broke 25 today, so it was slow across the board. I cooled down 3 miles with the guys and am currently home with Mommy and AUNT BETTY. Tonight is a great night. We can win Patriots if we want it bad enough.
