Managed to mess this one up as well. I had trained, I had rested, I had stuck to my diet all week, then on the day before the race I had bread and kidney beans and because I hadn't had it for ages and I loved it so much, I ate way too much. I felt like I weighed a ton, so I drank some of the poo tea. The morning of the race, I was able to rest a bit which was good, but I never felt right. Got to the race and was there early, so went round the course, found that it was frozen rock hard and fairly rutted, so took my spikes out of my shoes. Felt really lazy, and didn't manage to really warm up. Found that my vest had got soaked in water leaking from my water bottle in the bag. The race started pretty much as I expected, two guys started fairly fast, so I tried to stay with them as long as I could. I got dropped on the second lap, and couldn't get back to them, could feel the fourth place behind me as well. Got caught by the fourth on the last lap, stayed with him, and thought I could recover and sprint but it just didn't come, and I got caught for 5th on the finish as well. I am disappointed, but these are all good runners and I would have been closer on a better day. I hope I have one or two soon.
