Too Long - but sweet tempo

February 26, 2012 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Meant to do a 23-mile run as my training plan called for, circling through the Blue Hills, Canton, Dedham, Boston, and finally back into Milton. Instead, ended up doing an out-and-back of sorts. I came pretty close to closing the loop, but at the time I reluctantly turned around I had almost no idea where I was. I think I need to learn a few more a major roads and reference points before trying something like this again.

That said, I did get in a really nice tempo for the final 7 miles. I clocked the last four miles at a 6:28 average pace which is right on with what I'm hoping to be running during my marathon. I found it was tougher getting my legs to move fast than I'd expected. Breathing did not ever come close to being the limiting factor. Hopefully this run will help my leg strenght, but I should probably start incorperating some strengthening drills too to keep those smaller muscles from breaking down. I do think I maintained form fairly well.

The run started just before sundown and was riddled with ridiculous adventures, such as getting chased by angry dogs into a swamp, sneaking across two golf courses, and crossing through an Amtrak station (twice!). But on the whole, even thought I didn't complete the loop I set out to do, the run was good and that is what matters.
