Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
so my left calf has gradually been getting worse, but I never feel it going fast (races, workouts...) so I generally try to ignore it. but walking really bothers it. I have this problem every running season, but the frequent use of ice at Case holds it off. don't have that here. and it's always at its worst in the morning. everything culminated in this run. I literally fell out of bed because my leg gave out. I was falling over walking and couldn't even make a fluid running motion. I made it a mile down the street toward the park when I realized how ridiculous it was to be trying. I stopped, turned around, and hobbled home. It took almost 40 minutes to walk back.
time to admit to myself that I physically can't sustain 50-60 mile weeks without any real muscle recovery whatsoever. here's what I guess happens now:
-taking the next few days off. current goal is thursday night run with the cardiff team.
-icing frantically. which is difficult because I don't have ice. I'm using the ice pack I brought here for my lunches. I KNEW that would come in handy!!! :P It's not super effective.
-TONS of ibuprofen
-rubbing this Polish muscle cream on it twice a day. at least that's what my flatmate Aga told me to do. I can't read the tube because it's in Polish. :P I think it's something along the lines of icyhot or bengay but it doesn't have any scent or sensation whatsoever, so I have NO idea what it's doing, if anything :P
biking wednesday, that should be good. we shall see how things go. was quite depressed about this for a while but I need to just actively fix the situation and get on with my life.
