Chilly in the morning, had to get up really early and didn't have enough sleep again - about 6 hours. Felt ok in the morning though, got up as late as possible and had to rush for the train, but I'd packed some bread and jam and stuff and all my clothes so I was ready. The train was great, one of the new fast ones and then a connection on to Sutton Coldfield which was ok. They put me first leg of the b team, which was good. Ate my sandwiches at 10 so as to digest before the race at 12. The park is right near the station too. Got to rest for a bit on the grass and then started warming up about 45 mins before, warm up was pretty good. Race itself was hard, the start was mental, I started 3rd row and it was still way too fast. I just tried to do a pace and stick with it, but I slowed a lot after the first mile or so, and then just hung on as much as I could. I finished in 30:37 or something for the 8.8k, which felt hard, and I think is about the equivalent of 34:00 for a 10k.
