Exercise Type: Run
Weather: Warm, breezy
Comments:
So today we had a time trial, and we were allowed to pick either the 800 or the mile (we'll have another time trail on Tuesday to do whichever we didn't pick today). I was thinking of doing the mile but everyone but Thomas picked the 800 so I tagged along, looking forward to showing my regained strength. I warmed up on the track just in case even though my ankle wasn't hurting anymore, and then we started the time trial. It's been almost two years since I last ran an 800 on a 400m track, so I probably should have been paying attention. Instead I ran the first 200 like I'd run my first 100 on an indoor track, which resulted in me going out in 28.high for the first quarter of the race. I quickly scaled it back but the damage was done, and I went through the half in 61. From there I couldn't find it in me to push through the pain when no one was near me on either side, so I cruised through in 69. Tim caught up enough to tail me during the last 100m, but I didn't need to kick much. I ended up running that second half in 70, which was embarrassing (especially since Johnny was there watching) but a 2:11 in trainers isn't that bad.
Afterwards I felt really sick, which has always been an issue for me after races, especially my first race of a meet when I'm tight. I did some research once and it seems to happen when your brain doesn't get enough oxygen, so I'll have to remember to pay attention to my breathing during races if I want to be able to bounce back effectively during a double.
