Let's Try Again.

April 23, 2012 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Alright. So as we can see from running log, I had been off running for four weeks and off exercise completely for three. I suddenly had this magical epiphany as I was walking (miles and miles and miles...) around Amsterdam with Hannah: MY LEG AND FOOT DIDN'T HURT!!! They were killing me even through Stockholm and Dublin. But now, no more pain! So it's time to try again.

So what I have to make it through is 1. this silly little 5k handicap race with the running club (in costume) on Saturday, for which I am expected to run 18:30. ehem. 2. The BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) Outdoor Track Championships. They're basically like our nationals, only for Britain obviously. I am something like 5th on the waitlist for the 5k, and about the same for the 1500. They let in about 40 and waitlisted about 60. So it's very possible that I could end up running one of them. which means that... I have TWO WEEKS to get in shape.

HOW I WILL DO THIS WITHOUT HURTING MYSELF:
-LOW MILAGE. like, maybe 30. or not even. I don't know.
-GRASS MAGNET. workouts and easy runs both done entirely on grass. don't even run to get there; ride my bike.
-BIKE FOR ENDURANCE. If I can bike as well as I was a few weeks ago, that could give me the endurance I'll need for the 5k, since I won't be able to do the long tempos on pavement I used to.
-ICE BATH. I don't have ice, but I have a bathtub, a cold water faucet, and I freezy pack for my lunch. it'll have to do.

Let's see how this goes.
