Not a 4 Mile Race

August 4, 2012 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: ~90* and very humid

Comments:
Family went to Waddington this morning for a 4 Mile road race. Got there just in tIme to register and get the girls positioned before the start (no warm up other than some leg swings at the start line. Ran conservative for the first mile as everyone else seemed to sprint off from the gun. Just passed the mile mark I thought I could see the turn around and immediately started trying to figure out how they make up the extra distance on an out and back. Then, I saw the leader pass me on his way back (world class duathlete and triathlete from the area, Matt Russell). That's when I started thinking it might be a 5k. I asked the guy next to me and he confirmed that it was indeed a 5k. I tried to pick up the pace but ended up running fairly even pace at 6:50. Feel like sub 20 5k might be in grasp in another month or two, which would be huge for me right now. Happy with the effort but would have preferred a warm up and mentally prepped for a 5k as I would have approached it quit differently. Miles: 6:54, 6:48, 6:50, :45 (6:03). Ps our thermometer is currently reading 103F!
