*I did not have any HRM today. Looking back now, I should have paid closer attention to my effort level and considered the humidity's effect on me. I started out and locked into a pace, which is typically upper-end MED. However, in the conditions, I got into trouble trying to ~6:40/mi.
*There are two reasons why it is bad to try neglect perceived effort in adverse conditions.
1. Your session is frustrating and discouraging because you exert a lot of effort and get very little in return. You often feel worse than if you were running really fast in good conditions, but run slower than you normally would if the effort were much easier.
2. The workout takes a bigger toll on you than it normally would. 105min HOT in hot, humid weather is harder on the body than 105min HOT in perfect weather even when the effort levels are a match. What's worse: oftentimes, runners push harder in adverse conditions (so HOT becomes more like FIRE) because of frustration or obligation or any number of reasons.
