another bad storm...

June 10, 2008 (Night)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: humid and hot... what's new?

Comments:
I went out after the storm (another storm? yeah.) thinking that, since peaceful, cool, and quiet is usually the way things are around here after a thunderstorm, right afterwards would be a good time to run. Yeah, that wasn't the best logic. My usual 5 mile route, which includes part of the Back Mountain Trail, was all muddy, forcing me to change direction. I thought, well, I'll just go my 2 mile route twice then. On my way up the hill to my 2 mile route, the road was strewn with detritus from the storm. I sidestepped several branches and tons of leaves and stuff like that. Well, I found my 2 mile route blocked by a sign that said "road closed." So I thought "they mean road closed to CARS, not runners! So I ran right past the sign. And since it was so misty out, I almost ran right into the ginormous tree that blocked my path, covering the entire road. So I just figured I would go around the ginormous tree, when a voice out of nowhere said "there's an electric line down; I wouldn't do that if I were you" and I think I jumped a foot. And then I felt the adrenaline rush I usually associate with roller coasters. Nice. So I turned around and tried to cut up the usual path back home. No dice; another, smaller tree had fallen and there were men with chainsaws blocking my path. I wasn't about to ask them to stop, so I turned around again, went back down the hill, and then up the hill again to my house. I figured it was too dangerous to run that late without clean roads... no telling what else I might almost run into!!! Also, for the record, it was hot, I felt like crap, and couldn't breathe at all... I literally felt like I was drowning, but I blame that on the humidity and the heat.
