First Real Test of the XC

August 20, 2012 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Got to the Allentown parkway, warmed up for 2 miles and did drills, Etters told us we had a 25 min negative split run which either equals or is the longest one I've done. I knew people would be wanting to prove themselves here and it was no joke. Went out as a big pack, first mile out around 7:00, second dropped down to 6:20-30s, and the third was 6:10s, freshman turned back at 22 min and we all cheered as they began their first real challenge as Mountain Hawks. As soon as we turned around Jim and Lyle went straight to the front, those kids weren't messing around. I tried to hang up with them as Ty and Sam and Ward joined the mix. Through 3 miles I was hanging tough about 10m back from Jim, Ty, and Sam but I knew I was near my breaking point. Going up a hill they dropped me for good and Ty and Jim took off, I dropped back knowing Ward and Lyle were behind and could help me but I slowed down a little too much and they went by me. Since we only had like 600 left I was able to dig deep at the end and get back up to Ward and Lyle. Jimmy and Ty killed it up front probably 40 sec ahead and Sam was probably 15-20 sec ahead of us. From Lyle's time I calculated that us 3 did 5:17s so it was real solid given there were a few hills. I felt shitty at the end but hung tough. I'm feeling real confident in the direction the teams going right now; we're headed for some great things. The progression run in total was 7.5X miles. (pace of the whole thing was just under 6:00 I think) Cooled down for 1.5 after, sweat made us all feel freezing.
