Weather: Perfect day

Calvin Invite from Senior Year.

Woke up to a perfect day. Had a good breakfast. Although I wouldn't have a waffle again. My stomach was kinda not feeling so good come race time. Chilled in the hotel and watched weird TV until it was time to jog over.

Felt okay on the warm up. But definitely not as good as I had felt the night before. Needed a bit more warm up so I jogged a little bit alone before we headed over to the line. I tried out my track victories today since they feel better on my feet. That turned out to be a good thing. Never noticed them at all. Felt pretty relaxed on the line.

Coach had set up groups in the meeting last night. The groups were to go out together then race and hang together as long as possible. Went out a little conservative. Just tried to hold out group together and wait for people to come back to us. I felt really relaxed through 2 or 3 miles. The group stayed together until close to 4k. That was awesome. It was so cool just to roll with the team. Looking right and left and seeing two or 3 other guys right there with me.
Started really thinking about pushing to catch people in that 3rd mile. Ethan and I together started rolling together which again was awesome. Just picked off more and more people. We broke apart coming to 6k. Just tried to keep rolling the whole way in. That was where I started passing people i recognized. It was kinda fun to see people that I knew and pass them without them really being able to fight it. Saw Kenny Janasko leading a group up ahead as we came past 4 miles. Tried to catch him the whole way in. Cam up just short. Really just ran out of room. I was going as had as I could that last mile.
Biggest take away is that when we run like that I need to work the middle section of the race. I feel I can have a similar finish while working harder in the middle and finishing a little higher and faster.
I really like running that way though. We literally passed 100 people. I can't remember anyone passing us either. Its so easy to get rolling when you're passing people and not just hanging on.
This was a solid race for me and for the team. Definitely a good place to start for us. A lot of people had a lot of positives today. And we got a couple of guys ready to break significant time barriers. We're so much closer as a team this year having our 5th guy run 26:30 that's like our 3rd guy last year. Also guy 14 ran 28:05. Freshman year we were ecstatic that everyone broke 30. What a change. This is a great team.
Approx mile splits (5:12, 5:12, 5:02, 5:11, 4:51)
12th place. 2 places higher than last year. And felt a lot better about the race and where I am now and what I have left in the tank.
