Jersey City Half Marathon

Comments:
Fuck half marathons. Crazy windy out so nobody was expecting to run very fast. Went out at a good pace, like 5:15-5:20s for the first 5 miles with a 5:10 4th mile. Legs started burning around 5 miles in and the rest of race was a slow painful death. I don't think I've ever wanted to drop out of a race so bad. Aerobically I felt fine and wasn't breathing that hard, but my muscles just weren't working. I think the thing that killed me, besides the wind and the fast start, was the lack of long, grueling workouts. I've done a couple long runs, and a few short workouts, but nothing that prepares you for working this hard for this long. The best illustration of this is the fact that my shoulders are sore. My fucking shoulders. I'm so unused to running that far that hard that my fucking shoulder muscles ache. I committed to another half in a few weeks with some coworkers so I'm gonna need to change my training up if I don't want to shit the bed again.
