States. Victory is ours! Well, not JV boys' . . .. What a day. I found it hard to be frustrated when I heard both the girls and boys had won! I am even more proud to be on this team, but absolutely disgusted with and ashamed of my own race. As Anthony said, "There was a break in my chain of luck." This was one of the most poorly executed, pitiful excuses for a race I've ever run. And I prepared the same way I did for MACs! To be blunt, I was pretty upset that I did not get to run varsity (I usually am, whether my achievements merit that privilege or not). While we were warming up, I felt like I had suddenly lost all the water I drank over the past 48 hours. I panicked. We went to the line, and from the moment the siren went off I knew I was in for an ordeal. Michael screamed that I went through the first mile in 5:28. When I reached the hill Anthony said, "Good, good be aggressive in these next 200 meters, dig!" I yelled (or at least intended to yell) that I had gone out way too fast. I believe the 2 mile mark was about 12:03, but I could be wrong. I felt weak and sluggish throughout the rest of the race. My plan to go out fast and hang on was an utter failure. I doubt it will work again at regionals.
