Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
Ran the 3200 and the 4X800 today. In the 3200 I was 4:56 through 1600. Cartwright said I went 9:55, my dad said I was 9:57, and I also heard two 9:56s, but the fat time was 9:59. I came in fourth in the race. I stayed in the pack for the first mile. Then Steve took off. I remained in contact with him for a lap and didn't fall off for another two laps. Two guys ended up catching me. I think I had the wrong race strategy for this race, but I executed it to a T. I think I should have stayed in the pack until 800 left and let them do the work and carry me through to a fast time. did a cooldown with Steve. Then I did a shakeout run with John on the moody loop(he was cooling down from a 2nd place 4:36 mile). In the 4X800, I was the third leg. I got the baton with a 50 meter lead. I went out in 31, was through 400 in 65, and ended up running a 2:11. I ran as hard as I could, but I just didn't have it then. I still handed off in the lead, but had let it narrow to 10 meters. John smoked the anchor leg and we won by several seconds. I am disappointed in how I ran, but we won so I can't complain too much, I guess. Did the moody loop to cooldown with John and Dustin. After that I ran with Steve when he cooled down from the 4X400 and did a mile on my own. I am in the 1000 and 1600 next week and am looking forward to being able to get a chance to work on my footspeed. I have had 5 weeks of very good training and feel I am getting stronger everyday. I know it is going to convert at some point though I wish it was sooner rather than later. Two thoughts I have: 1. I threw up before the 3200. I don't know why I was so nervous. I couldn't control my nerves and did not enjoy the race. I think if I can keep them under control it will be a lot easier to drop time. I am not sure how to do that and am going to work with Coach on it. 2. I think I had the wrong strategy for the 3200. Coach Cartwright thinks I need to go out faster. He said the plan is for me to go out in under 4:45 in my next one. I wonder if maybe I should wait longer to go. I think I could have a great 800 kick if I waited that long. Either way, I think I have learned from the last two races that the mile is not the place for me to move just yet. Lastly, I did beat everyone in Section 4 other than Steve in the 3200, so if this were State Q's I would be going to States and would be elated right now. The next closest guy was Ty Sutherland who went 10:04 officially. Steve went 9:36, hit the State Standard time and set the Indoor School Record. All in all, I helped the team get 6.25 points and can't complain too much.
