Exercise Type: Run
Weather: Cold and Raining
Comments:
Well, let's start last night which was sleep interruptus: honakkah party
upstairs and a car alarm that when on and off through the night. I think
I still managed to get some good winks though.
I had a breakfast of egg whites powder and apple sauce - yum! It's from
the paleo diet for atheletes. I would have had eggs and fruit but didn't
have time to shop.
The drive to the race was beautiful - great sunrise, clear. But I new rain
was on order.
I had a powergel right before the race, and carried a supercharged bottle
of gu-brew and some power gels, plus a paleo power ball (raisins, almonds,
egg-whites, honey, molasses) for late in the race.
I went with just a T-shirt, hat, and no gloves (should have).
All went well til about a little past the mid-point of the race. I mean,
I was feeling great. I took the first climb slow, and had a nice descent.
At the mid-point I hit a branch, stumbled and my right calf spasmed.
I got it under control quickly, but I think it started sending signals
all up and down my leg. I started noticing right IT band pain. Around
mile 20 I noticed I had really tightened up in the hips which exsacerbated
the IT. But If I kept good control of my form and could kind of
keep everbody happy .
The hip tightness and generalized pain I was feeling thoughtout my
legs remionded me the Skyline race. But I noticed it came later
in this race so things are improving.
I would say mile 20 to the end was full of ups and downs. At some points
I felt pretty shitty, then it would improve abit. And then back
to shiity.
I finshed at 5:40. I wanted to keep walking but I was also worried about
getting really cold. I went to the car to change and had a seriousley
hard time getting the little pocket in my shorts open for the key.
Once I changed I went back to the start and had some soup - so good!
Oh, I did try the powerball at ~mile 26. It set OK in my stomach.
I did having passing feeling of naseau after mile 20 ntil the end.
Still overwhelmed by this distance but will keep plugging away.
