Terrapin Invite - 5k

Comments:
15:31.9 at UMD's flat track. 9:20am race. Splits of 4:52, 5:00, 5:04. Again, lots of positives and negatives I can take from this.

First of all, this ties my outdoor PR from last year really early in the season and really early in the morning (also didn't get much sleep last night), which is encouraging in mid-January. Next, I competed well all race with the small pack I was in, and never let them get away until one kid outkicked me (still need more speedwork) towards the end. Also raced relaxed both physically and mentally. Last, a beat a kid who broke 15 last year, and was right behind a kid who ran 15:10 last year, which is encouraging for later this season.

Negatives include the big positive split (I'm going to need low 4:50's to be comfortable), the weak end turnover (going to get in acceleration strides everyday this week for that), and that I wasn't paying enough attention to my splits towards the end (need to know where I'm at at all times). I worked out 36 hours before this meet, which left my legs a bit sore for the race. Finally, I have had a small cold this week, and I need to make sure I sleep and eat right to get rid of that.

2 up, 5k race, 2.5 down, 2.5 later in the day as a shakeout
