So I had asked to run a 400, 200, and 4x2 so I could focus on my speed and also see what I'm capable of in the 4 now. I ended up scratching the open 2 because of a pounding headache and general feeling-dead-ness after the 4, but that didn't stop this from being a great meet.
In the 4 I started up since the last time I practiced block starts was probably freshman year, if not 8th grade. I still had a good first half, maybe a little too fast though since I was right behind Jacob and Josh when we all tucked in with 250 meters to go. They gradually dropped me as my entire body began to disintegrate, and my second half felt pretty slow as I struggled to keep my burning arms moving (surprisingly it was my arms that were the bottleneck on my time; my legs still felt like they had a lot left in them). I still came through in a respectable 54.2, which didn't quite hit my goal of sub-54 but was still enough to put a smile on my face.
After scratching the 2, I felt like I needed to have a good 4x2 leg to make up for it. York wasn't at full strength and they ended up getting DQ'd anyway, so it was us against the clock, and man did we destroy the clock. Jacob ran what is probably a slowish leg for him, 23.3 or so, but everyone else improved on their past times. Personally I got down to 24.2, which was mind-blowing for me. As a team we got down to 1:37.3, which lengthened our lead in Class B to about .8 seconds faster than York, the next fastest team. Between the 4x8, 4x2, and the 800, it's looking like I'm going to be in the running for the state championship in three events!
Speaking of the 4x8, Spencer's hamstring (at least I think it was his hamstring) acted up again in the JR 4x2 and forced him to drop. However he and Jorma don't think it's as serious as last year, so hopefully he'll be back quickly so we can get our 4x8 in order. Without Spencer our 4x8 team goes from competing for first place to being in a questionable position as to whether or not it will even score.
