Comments:
5k at haverford's (in my opinion) crappy indoor track. splits of 4:52 (even), 9:45 (even), 14:45 (slowed down), 32 for 15:18.45. obviously can't be too disappointed with a nice flat track PR, but as usual, negatives and positives:
Negatives: Feel asleep on the third mile. Was still competing hard, but didn't realize that I was falling off pace because the clock got covered up. I felt especially good with 400 left, probably cause i relaxed too much from 3.5k to 4.5k. Also, I closed well (32), but I know I could have gone faster. I settled for the time instead of beating the next person, which won't cut it in future championship races.
Positives: prepared well for this race. got excited and pumped up for the first time this season. stayed in contact with the pack without getting jumbled up too much in the physicality of it. I've been making the mistake of settling too much early in races and this time i went after it from the start. Julian and Steve yelling at me to stay with the pack certainly helped. Also got aggressive in the middle, stayed relatively on top of my splits up until the last mile, and had fun racing.
overall, encouraged by the race. i feel like i've been going at it without results for a while, and to get a big PR on a slow track took a lot of weight off my shoulder. 19 seconds away is a lot less daunting than 32 seconds away. hopefully i'll get a shot to get under 15:10 (which i know im capable of now) at BU.
