First Speed Workout in Some Time

Since I've been on and off sick for quite a while I haven't actually run a speed workout in about a month. The last thing I can remember is 600s on the indoor track and that was at least a week before Patriots which we are now about 3 weeks past. In theory the workout sounded pretty easy, 800-600-400-200 with 4 min rest-3 min rest-2 min rest but with pretty fast goal times: 2:06 1:34.5 59 and whatever for the last 200. It was really windy on the outdoor track so we knew it would be harder to hit those times. We opened up with 4x200 at 30-32 with 200 jog recovery. For me I could tell I was paying for not having run a speed workout in a while. My legs were burning and I was dropping off of the back of the top workout group on every interval. For some reason whenever I got to the last straightaway on each interval I would have a huge kick and go from 5-10m behind the back to catch up to the back at the end. I ended up going 2:08-1:36-62-28 but definitely not comfortably. I think at this point I just haven't worked the speed muscles in a while so it's something that I plan on working on in the next few weeks so I can get back to where I should be.
