Simulated 5k

March 19, 2013 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Today we got the simulated 5k dropped on us. It's basically on and off 200s and 400s with the 200s at hard distance running pace (~6:00) and the 400s at goal race pace. It ends up being 9 200s and 8 400s for a total of 5000m. I decided my goal 400 pace would be 70 (14:35 5k). After warming up 3 and doing drills we started the workout. I decided to just tuck onto the back of the lead pack because they were doing 68's and there wasn't really anyone else at my goal pace. Halfway through after clipping off straight 69s I realized I wasn't tired (I dropped out after 3200 last year so that was big). I maintained 68-70s for the rest of the workout never feeling too pushed and feeling really in control. Ended up with a 16:04 finishing with Lyle only a few seconds behind Jimmy, Sam, and Mahalsky who all ran 16:01. This was a big confidence boost going into the weekend. I think sub-15 is in the cards if I go out a little conservative to start. We cooled down about 5 and did hurdle drills after.
