Ran REALLY bad today, completely embarrassed myself out there. I felt good going into the race and felt solid during the past few workouts so I expected a good day, around 4:12 or so was the goal. The race went out kind of slow, 2:16 through 800. I was on the outside in lane 2 most of the time but it was either that or be in lane 1 but in last. After 800 the pace picked up and I just had no response and got dropped. The frustrating thing is I didn't even feel bad after I finished, I just didn't have it in my legs today.
It was my first race since January so that likely factored in. Workouts are one thing but races are another. I just need to get more speed in. I let my mileage get away from me the past 6 weeks or so and I didn't do many workouts in February so the next two weeks are crucial. I'll get at least four more workouts in and I'll bump my mileage up a bit. Although it's early and I should've been expecting some rust after the winter, I never expected to run that slow and it's a short season. I suppose this just leaves me with much more room for improvement.
