Therapy Mode, Day Three

April 3, 2013 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Elliptical

Comments:
Things are looking up.

Today I did my rehab routine, and then hit the elliptical for 60 minutes (plus a 10 minute elliptical warp-up and a 2-mile track cool-down). This was a big confidence booster, because on Monday I went down to the KAC before class and did a mile on the elliptical. The whole time, I was feeling some pain in my IT-band - not as much as when I tried running, but still significant sensation. Today, however, I barely felt it for the whole hour. Then I did two miles on the track to cool down, and I did feel it a bit. Twice I extended my stride too far, and I got a sharp shot of pain. But I think this means I can try running tomorrow - maybe a long run, at a very slow pace? I trigger the pain when I extend my stride - hence why the elliptical didn't activate the pain very much. So if I keep my stride short, I'll be okay, I think.

So far, the best thing seems to be rolling out the muscles on a foam roller. I did that twice today: once before my rehab session around 3:45, and the other time while I was stretching around 6:15. The first time, I really hit the spot where the pain is coming from, and sat on the pain until it softened. The second time I rolled out, I actually couldn't trigger the pain, which seems to imply the muscles are getting good and loose.
