PHS Track

May 22, 2013 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Warm - Slight Breeze

Comments:
Plan was to put in a good warmup (6-7mi's), then do some repeat K's on the track.

Ran from PHS, by the Overlook and to the end of the canal (:24). Body felt freakin' awesome. That rest day really helped. Not to mention, the ice bath, soak, and eating really really well.

I led on the way back and just let the body find the groove it wanted. Ended up being a little quicker than planned, but it felt so easy so I just went with it.

LB was at the track, which was cool. A few strides and it was go time. The specific plan: 5k pace through the first 400, pick it up to 3k pace the next 200, then basically "hold on" the last 400.

I led us through the first 400 in roughly 72-ish, then Joe burst open a surge. Shoot, I fell like 10m back as the sudden gear shift was a shock to my body. Closed a little before the 600 and then stayed right on his heels into the finish (3:04).

400m jog, then 200m walk and it was go time again. Man, I felt worked after the first one! Chest was burning. Energy was fine, but it was definitely faster and longer than I've been used to.

We switched roles on the second one, so Joe led us through 400 in, I think, 68-69, then I surged ahead, which felt fine. Was able to hold on really well and ended up hitting 2:59.7! Wow, that was fast!

Since these were so quality, we decided one more, then some 200's to finish it off. Fine with me, I maybe had 1 more left in me.

I liked the feeling of the surge, even though it was more taxing, so I opted to do it again. Another 69 opening lap, then I surged (from further out this time, like a 50m "buildup") and at the 700m mark, the wheels just came flying off. Put my body is the red zone too much for too long and it just shut down.

Joe scooted by me and man, I considered dropping, but couldn't bear the shame so I did my best to finish it out. Closed in like a 40 in the last 200 (not "good", but not terrible for blowing up).

Joe went other-worldly in 2:54, while I surprisingly split a 3:01....Was not expecting that. Hey, its consistent at least!

2mi c/d, then it was off to In N Out for a quick bite before meeting The Gellins, Twiet, and LB at the Alehouse for our "2nd speaker session"

Different from mtg with Jim, but very valuable and passion-driven.
