Greatest 4th in the North 5k today. It wasn't nearly as fast as I could have, or wanted to go, but it was a pretty satisfying experience.
I did a bit of research beforehand, and I figured that I should be with the front group of people, so I put myself close to the front of the starting line, but I still got stuck behind a lot of people, and had to do a lot of ducking and weaving to actually get out. I got out the first mile at 5:40, and felt super comfortable, but other than that, I didn't see any other mile markers, so I was kind of lost on splits. But, my main strategy was to just find a group and stick with them, so I did that. The only problem with that, was that the guys I was pacing off of slowed down a bunch, and since I wasn't really keeping track of the pace myself, I hurt myself timewise. In the last quarter mile or so, I realized that I had another gear left, so I kicked it in a bit, and flew by the rest of my group. Definitely had way too much left in the tank for that, so I should have been going that speed for a while before that.
Ended up coming in 8th place overall, which was nice, but I'd like to have been way faster than that. If I'd raced more aggresively, I could have been better, but there's not much I can do about it now.
