Dover Road Run

June 21, 2009 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 60's, drizzly

Comments:
Ran down winding river to dover to main street for a long ways then took random road to make a loop around dover. Route was actually pretty hilly. Didn't go hard, but didn't take it very easy, was just moderate. Noticed for probably the first time ever (since I have ever ran) that my IT band bothered me during the run.. Wasn't terrible, but was tight and seemed to mess up my form a tiny bit; didn't feel perfectly natural strides. Pain started after 5 minutes, and pain didn't get worse, but didn't get better. Wasn't very bad when I went up hills, but quite bad when I went down hills. Did some more tests, and noticed that for short speed sections (6-8 seconds) pain was terrible in IT band, felt very tight, so didn't do any more speed tests. The whole time during the run, the only pain in the IT band was right leg. Left leg has pretty much never bothered me. To clarify, on the run there was no pain that I had previously been having (patellar tendinitis, under kneecap) There weren't even any twinges like there were a couple of weeks ago. This IT band pain has come up very quickly, has been bad, and hopefully is just a sudden thing from increasing mileage. However, it is bad that this pain has come up during a run for the first time ever, means I will have to back down on mileage much more by next week, and do the elliptical...
