Maple Heights XC 5K

Found this low key 5K being advertised online so decided to give it a go. Also wanted to get one in before it gets real close to school starting so this may be the last race I am able to do for a while.

First thing is I'm not quite sure what the starter's experience was in starting races; however, he may want to consider having himself and the lead vehicle farther away from the starting line. I almost ran in to the back of the police car and then they floored it to avoid the whole field running into them. Interesting strategy.


I figured there would not be a whole bunch of competition but I would have liked it if there was a bit more than was there. Being alone I was happy with my race, 16:30 and I did come in first, a bit faster than several weeks ago. with some others around me, I think I could run in the 16:teens just based on how I was feeling in the middle of the race. Was happy with my pace being pretty even though, my first and second mile splits were 5:14, 10:27.

Second place guy was low 18s. Cooled down with him and two other older trail runners; one a maple hts alum. They knew one of my high school coaches who is now at Nordonia, which is also where the 2nd place kid happens to go to hs. Small world..

We'll see where I go from here. My plan was to take a break as the job starts up although I would rather continue to race and work on some of my long-term goals.. We will see what I can do with work.
