tempo. bumping up to 7 miles this week. i was actually going to talk to coach about bumping it up even before she talked about to everyone, so what a nice coincidence. i'm finally starting to feel good running fast, if that makes any sense. on wednesday when we were doing the miles i just kind of thought i know i can run faster, and even though it was a very weird workout with the short first part i think it sort of gave me my confidence back. i think i had gotten into this idea that i was just going to be the teacher for the second group, and whatever happened with my own performance was a minor detail. i'm still willing to help people out, but these weeks leading up to all-ohio are going to be about me. even if it makes benny d a little anxious, haha. coach told me in the spring that the team was going to need me this year. i thought she was just saying that to me because she thought i wasn't coming back. not that the team necessarily will need me, but i want to be there if they do need me. so i've spent the last week trying to gather myself mentally, because thats been the problem in the past. i think i have a handle on things. physically i feel stronger and today's tempo reflected that. went up with group 1. group 1 is not quite the pace masters group 2 has become, and i hung out in the back, just doing whatever the group did until the turnaround. then i kind of took control because i knew in the wind it would be tougher, and i wanted to hold our pace even in that wind. we were faster than the set pace of 5:40 for all the miles, but i was already in rhythm from the first few miles, so i just kept that up all the way. benny d wanted to slow up the last mile so i finished 6 seconds ahead of him galen and bryan, but we did most of the workout together. hr was 160, which is actually my lowest yet for tempos. the 300's were iffy. normally i feel good on them, but gilad was kicking my ass, and i'm not comfortable with that, haha.
i had been telling david and anyone that asked "just give me time" when they asked why i wasn't doing so well, basically because i didn't have a real excuse. here's hoping i was actually right, and time is now on my side.
