So Damn Close

So damn close, but not enough. I had the intention of running tonight a 5k. In that case I started out at a good pace, finished the 5k in a shade over 20 minutes. Finally getting closer to my normal times, and it's only been two weeks. I can't wait for months from now, I'm going to shatter my expectations and PR's. That's why I run, to better myself in every way. After the 5k I took a short walk and still felt good. So I started running and the next time I looked at my watch I was at 8 miles. Now I'm training for a half marathon in November. I have such a long way to go, it's not even funny. After seeing 8 miles on the watch the fatigue hit me...hard. Nevertheless I wanted to see how close I could get to the 13.1 miles. I was determined to win the battle against my body, and I failed. At 11.44 miles my body felt like it shut down. I felt like I was about three more steps from fainting and my legs stared to get that tingling sensation right before they go numb. And one meal today wasn't nearly enough, especially after burning 1300 calories on the run. I was done, defeated. I missed my goal, but I still ran more miles than I've ran since I started running. I might not of gotten to 13.1 but I still have four months to get two more miles. Not a bad start to my training.
