Comments:
I'm still trying to sort out the day, so here goes. I didn't feel like I didn't get quite get enough sleep last night, but once I got on the bus I tried to nap, and did ok with that. Starting the warmup though, I just felt totally out of breath. It could have been the heat, or just tiredness, but it didn't make me super optimistic about the race. After drilling, strides and an extra team cheer though, I felt like I had my head in the game more.
Best guess at splits was something like:
5:49, 12:09, 18:30, 24:34, 30:39.
The first mile was alright pacewise, and I felt pretty good, but I guess I must have slowed down somewhere in that second mile. That definitely threw off the rest of my race. After realizing I slowed down 20 seconds, I kind of told myself to stop worrying about time, and just focus on passing people. Which I mostly did. The rest of the race kept going that way, but I think I had an ok kick, except for the last 10 meters or so.
I'm definitely frustrated with my time, because for this entire season I haven't had a single good race, despite having pretty solid, consistent workouts. I know I've been saying I'll get it in the next race, but that time's running out. Not much else to do than to actually make it count.
My individual race aside, today was really legit. Got the chance to see people run and win some awesome stuff, not to mention getting a delicious dinner at the end of it all.
