all ohio. its really weird to look at my time from this race, and know that i ran faster freshman year. and that is the only time at this meet i ran faster. wow.
with that being said today left me with very mixed feelings. i probably did my best mental work ever in getting ready for this race considering the shitty week i had. i watched a movie on the way to the meet to keep my mind focused on other things, and then listened to songs that in general just made me happy, haha. and i went and talked to all my high school friends, and kept things loose. i tried to just not think about the race until we were on the line. when the race started i stayed very calm, and chilled while i watched a few of the other open guys run faster than i think they should have for the first mile. me lou and bryan were chilling a bit behind and came through the mile at 5:20's. considering final time it seems fast, but i still think it was a good pace to go out at. i thought how good of a start it was and tried to move up with lou and bryan, but my legs just felt real heavy and tired. i know barnes told us pain is a state of mind and and your legs will do what you tell them to, etc. but i think this week was just a little much for my legs. especially wednesday. i really think it was a bad time to do a workout as tough as that on our legs. and my calves felt like shit. anyway, phil is the only guy on our team who actually passed me during the race, and there weren't a ton of others who passed me either, so i guess that's progress. i think it was also weird racing an 8k for the first time in 50 weeks! so long, and weird to think about. i hope its more like fall weather at oberlin though, because i'm not too great in the heat. it was nice to see what a lot of people did in the open race, and even though coach thinks there needed to be more from the guy's team in general, i know there's 6 weeks until regionals, and things will shape up.
