Fort Williams Cliff Walk

July 5, 2009 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: perfect

Comments:
If any of you come visit Maine, you really should go see Fort Williams. It's a beautiful park which is a few miles from both my parents houses. It's free and it's a pretty popular tourist destination in the summer. Our town purchased it from the federal government in the 60s or 70s after they threatened to build low income housing there. It's an old military base that is a few hundred acres right on the water with a lighthouse commissioned by George Washington in the 1780s and a lot of military forts and old mansions, and it's the only publicly accessible land on the north side of Cape (multi-million dollar homes line the coast in both directions). Anyway, I run here a lot, and on nice days in the summer it's always packed with a ton of people from out of town or out of state. These dipshits take issue with me running through a park maintained by my tax dollars and not theirs and which has my family's name on junk in thanks for contributions. This really pisses me off more than just about anything else that commonly occurs in the summer. I really don't give a damn if my running through there or hopping a fence pisses off some 50 y.o. bitch from Kansas whose children are enjoying a field or a walk my parents and friends donated their money to build. I always wonder if people in places I visit are as annoyed by visitors who have no respect for the places they grew up with as I am. O ya, and the run was good.
