Slept in this morning (vs running at 7am), glad I did as I felt refreshed. Had a nice morning w/ SarZ and SadeZ, then went to church at 11a which was awesome (in a 6-week series on "Jacob" ... nice).
Was feeling good energy in the body so a TR to HB & Back sounded good ... Seriously been like a year+ since I've done this run and within the first few miles I was kicking myself for not coming out here more. Its just SO up and down, technical, winding ... This section gets you strong.
Actually ran it smart for once ... In the past I've run too hard outbound, and then "caved" inbound. First time, too, I didn't bring any gels or water (I've bonked far too many times out here bc, again, I freakin got my HR too high for too long....easy to do with all the little steep ups ... I'm sure you remember this "annoying" section from '11 AR50 .. Its SUPS slow, but awesome.
What a difference a year makes....I felt incredibly stronger than in previous times running out here ... In the past, I'd hover around 10min pace, feeling muscularly "worked", but today, was comfortable and hovering in the 8-9min range, which, the "Grade Adjusted Performace" from STRAVZ says is high-7 to low-8 min effort ... Perfect.
Without the 3min w/u to the TH, hit HB in 50-high ... which ... is GOOD for taking it easy. Damn ... Was planning to run moderate on the return, and was feeling good, so I picked it up just slightly.
Handled the ups and downs pretty good and pushed it a little bit the last 1.5mi .... 48-low on the return. Perfect. Just what I wanted. Not too fast, but just enough for now.
Easy .3 c/d back to the car.
Great outing and for sure need to commit to coming out here once a week. Perfect LS50 training grounds. (2,000' vert ... Stupid STRAVA said *only* 1,100' ... Serzies? My altimeter clocks 2k' everytime ... How is there a 900' difference? My "cheap" Garmin watch? ... Weird.
