Not bad. I didn't run on Thursday in a last-minute effort to taper for this meet, so I was feeling pretty tight (especially after an hour long nap at the meet!). However, after a 10 minute jog and some drills I was feeling pretty good. I was second seed behind a John Carroll kid, so I was hoping to do well since I wouldn't have to lead. I went out hard from the gun but the JC kid got boxed in so I backed off a bit to let Gabe take the lead. He was clearly hungry for a fast time so he took us out at a good clip, probably around 60 but I'm not certain. I passed him with the JC kid and someone else on the third lap, and the JC kid took the lead going into the last lap with me behind the other kid (1:30-1:31 at this point). I realized I had waited too long to make a move and went out into second lane to pass the kid in front of me on the curve as the JC kid was pulling away, and once I was free I was too far back to do anything, unfortunately. I still ran a 2:02.33 for second, which is my second fastest 800 ever and under the A standard for outdoor, which means I'll be racing a lot more after spring break.

Overall I felt really good on the first half, during the first lap I was actually worried that we were going too slow because my stride was so effortless, but it was probably a 29 or 30. My last lap left something to be desired but I was sort of in a bad place without much motivation to push. I really do think I'm set to break 2 this spring in spectacular fashion, I just need to work on my speed endurance a bit more and a race with some sub-2 guys to pull me along. This is really the first time I've been excited about my fitness since before my knee injury.
