Comments:
I wasn't able to reclaim my title today but I was still able to come in a distance 2nd. I wasn't sure what to expect today after coming off a 10 day lay off, but I was ok with my time, much happier being able to get under 6mins a mile.
The start was fast with a few people sprinting at the beginning. They quickly slowed to their normal pace and I took over 1st place. But that didn't last long, I could hear breathing behind me and I tried to pick up the pace a bit to create a gap. But I couldn't shake him, he took first place just before the second mile marker and as the race went on he increased his lead.
I was slower this year by almost 30 seconds, and the winner was just seconds under last years time. That doesn't mean anything about my ability starting to fade. Taking the 10 days off hurt my performance and increasing smoking during the time off really hurt. Adding in that I have been training for distance and endurance instead speed for preparation to move up in events to the half and marathon. Considering all that my time was pretty good and I have at least 2 more races to choose from to get in a good time...
