July 12, 2009 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: Sunny and mild
Comments:
The big day! Once again the sun shines on the Boilermaker (or so I hear, historically speaking). Got some good accommodations with Hall, Hetzel, HT and Reeve (in the room originally reserved by Mike Howard). Good times there. Be sure to ask Hetzel and Jim about BFT. It's real.
Got a good start off the blocks and ran the first three miles sub seven. Lost some time during the uphill in the fourth mile, but got it back on the way back down during the fifth and was still sub seven at the five-mile marker. Legs started to turn to lead around mile 8, which was not good. Despite plenty of stretching, the usual culprit (left hamstring) started acting up late and it took some grit to hang in there. As usual, the SLU shirt got some cheers from faces in the crowd.
Now that I know the course, I'm stoked for next year. Great to see so many familiar faces and hit the road with them. Sorry I had to bail on everyone so soon, but I had to work the afternoon shift at the restaurant back in Albs.
