Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
cold and windy today. but still sunny somehow. once we warmed up though, the weather was actually feeling pretty good. the plan was to stay behind newby and see what would happen, hopefully get pulled to a solid time.
so we went out and didn't mess around too much, running 74s for the first 3 laps and felt real solid. i ran behind newby but moved out slightly over all the barriers, and took the water extra wide. we slowed down a bit from there. the emory guy came around for a minute, but i stayed calm and chilled until it was time to make a move. newby and i started moving with maybe 800 to go and dropped the other two, then really going into the last 400. didn't know if i'd be able to get him, but had to stay in contact. at 200 to go, we took the barrier, and i could tell he was slowing. i closed the gap coming into the last water jump, and kicked hard coming out and blew by him. i think he was surprised, but i didn't look back and just kept kicking through the finish. i guess i got him by a couple seconds.
so that was a uaa championship right there. never wouldve thought id be in that position, but it was very gratifying, and a good way to do it. felt pretty good after the race, and i think i have quite a bit left to improve on the time, which wasn't that stellar. but given the conditions and the weird track, i don't think it'll be a huge stretch.
proud of chippy and galen. getting uaa experience will definitely help in the coming years. glad to have a solid group to hand down the tradition of steeple excellence haha.
