Had me a fun morning running in Downers Grove this morning. This was the 3rd annual Run for Rwanda which is put on by Africa New Life Ministries. About 100 people or so turned out for it this year and when I was standing at the starting line, I didn't see anyone who looked "fast" so I thought, hey, might actually have a shot to win this thing.

After the horn to start the race went off, well, let's just say I was immediately in the lead and the footsteps only got more and more faint until it was just me and the pace car. This was both fun, and disappointing. I was hoping for someone to chase, or race, to propel me a little bit faster, but no such luck. Just tried to keep things even and steady. Didn't want a repeat of the race last fall where I led 2.5 miles of the race only to lose the lead in the last 100m.

The race clocks were a little off - my watch time was 18:43 but the race clocks read 18:48, not sure how that could happen, but I'm going with my watch time. Splits were 5:58, 6:01, 5:59, :43 (5:39) which I'm very pleased with. In a way I kinda feel like I got away with something because the 2nd place time was 19:51. I'm happy I was able to push myself to a 5-second PR despite running alone. Looking forward to seeing what I can do with a little more competition.

Loot for the day was a $50 GC to a local running store. Score! Also, really proud of Leslie K. who rocked it today, getting 2nd in her AG. She's getting better and better every race and I don't think it will be long until she's setting PRs again.
