So, several weeks ago, some friends of ours asked us to run in a charity 5K with them and at the time we had already signed up for the one we did yesterday, but we said what the hell, might as well do it. I figured I would just treat it as a training run and incorporate it into a longer run.

The 5K was in Elmhurst which is only few miles from our house (3.55 to be exact) so I ran to the race via the Prairie Path and then met up with my friend. At the starting line was a bunch of kids which was great to see, the run is to support kids brain cancer research. The Jesse White Tumblers were there too which was awesome to watch. After the gun went off, well, my competitive juices got the best of me. Ran 6:25, 6:15, 6:16, :36 (6:08) for the splits for a total time of 19:24 which was good enough for 3rd overall. I was a little miffed when immediately after I finished a guy came up to me and said, "you're supposed to let the kids win." I said in retort, "I thought the point of racing was to run your best." A kid got first and a kid got second, so I honestly didn't feel bad. And besides, this is the first time I've ever done this race so how was I supposed to know? Anyway.

Hung out for awhile afterwards cheering people on and hanging out with my friend, then ran home. All in all, a fun morning and a well-done race organization wise. I think I've earned a rest day tomorrow.
