Comments:
Entry 582. We went to D.C. outdoor states for the first time. This would be my last race this season and I must say I'm extremely disappointed with today and the whole season. We had quite the long warmup because of the 30 minute thunder delay. I was still exhibiting mild cold symptoms during the afternoon, mostly a slight cough and throat congestion. I took some comfort in Anthony's comment that one can't have three great seasons in a row, after a good winter and a better fall. I ran the race with Jackson, finishing 5th and according to Anthony we did our job and ran well, keeping each other honest. During the first lap, Jake, Griffin Ross and Tyreece Huff all went out quickly (I hate to think of 5:00 as going out "quickly") and I tried to stay relaxed, sticking to the plan of going out conservatively, because that's the only way I've successfully raced the 32. Even that failed today! So I pounded around the track as usual, mentally sharp, but physically not. I came through the first mile in 5:12, trying not to count myself out, especially when Jackson passed me during lap six. We were isolated from those in front of us and behind us. On the seventh lap I continued to push, mentally hanging on to Jacquesfils. I feel at a loss for words about this. I definitely accelerated the last lap, which felt good, but I arrived a time still 10 seconds away from a PR set ALMOST FOUR MONTHS AGO. Griffin, of course, waltzed through a 9:51, the time I wanted to run this season. I don't really know what concrete, serious mistakes I've made this time around. I trained harder than ever, day in, day out and it just never worked. Anthony pretty much said not to bother doing a time trial in the 4, 8 or 16. I'll say I'm nice and motivated for this summer and next year. As I texted Zeke earlier today, I'm all in for cross country. I want the same type of improvement I had from freshman to sophomore year. I want us to sweep the MAC, 1-7.

Addendum: Boys won and girls got 3rd! Looking at this meet, we didn't win that many individual events, but placed in enough, including the 800, the open 400, the 4x4 and the 16 (in which Aidan and Griffin ran 1, 2 in 4:30. Ran good.
