Weather: Low-70s, sunny

Comments:

Welp, what I can say about this race is that I got the PR. First 10K under 40:00 which has been a goal of mine for awhile. Official finish time was 39:54.5 - good for 1st in my AG and 13th overall out of 593 finishers. The weather wasn't ideal, about 70 degrees and a little on the humid side, but no real wind.

The disappointment I feel about this race is in how I ran it. My splits were as follows: 6:14, 6:24, 6:21, 6:26, 6:27, 6:34, 1:26 (6:23). To me, that's backwards. There was a 5K race that started at the same time, and along the same course, as the 10K and I got caught up running too fast for the first mile. After the 5K mark, we split off and then it was really spread out...it became a game of holding on for as long as I could. My last .2 is evidence enough that I didn't have much left to give, I barely increased my speed down the finishing chute. I'm really happy with the PR, but a little disappointed because I feel like I could have run a smarter race, especially given the weather conditions. With all that being said, it was a great atmosphere at the race, I met up with a lot of local runners I know. Leslie K. was there dominating another 5K and we got to hang out sans kiddo after the race which was really great. The AG win was nice (and unexpected), got a nice little medal for that. This is the 3rd time I've run the 10K distance and I still don't feel like I have it figured out. In my mind, it just feels like a really long 5K...the speed element is there and the fatigue really gets to you after awhile. Winning time was 33:33 which is very impressive.
