July 22, 2014 (Afternoon)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: mid 80s and humid
Comments:
Ran from STA to Mass to Lover's Lane to G-Town to Canal to Glover and up Garfield with the strongest group. I couldn't (and didn't need to) restrain their enthusiasm. I ignored warning signs for the first 2/3rds, but then conceded that I didn't have it today once we turned up Glover. They ran sub 7:20 in that first, uphill mile and I split 7:40. It got downright ugly coming up to Wisc, but I focused on form and not allowing myself to pause for a water break in the gardens as I'd considered. Maybe it was giving blood yesterday and a smidge more at the doctor's today. Maybe it was fatigue form the past 5 days. Maybe it was the return of heat and humidity after being spoiled in CA and since my return. Maybe it was the constant self doubts of being over 40 and running with high school kids who are light, and motivated, and strong. Without a doubt it was all of these combined. Well, what doesn't break me makes me stronger. I don't feel broken. I'll be ready for RTB, some good fall training and the cut-throughs of the Farm Park. Right knee was sore and I'm continuing to ice it at night.
