Got another chance to run an evening 5K and it made sense to do it since I usually do speed work on Wednesdays anyway. I had it on good authority that the course was flat and fast and it turned out that way. After a mile warm-up and some strides, I met up with Marc W. who was also running. He paced us to a perfect first mile of 5:52 and I was feeling pretty good. I kept the second mile pretty steady at 5:55 and slowed a bit on the 3rd, with a 6:04. Kicked it in with a final .1 in :43 for a final time of 18:30, good for a 12-second PR.
I would like to give a special shout-out to Marc W. It was knowing that he was right behind me that kept me going at the end of this race. He finished in 18:39...the only difference between he and I is that he's 50. If I can be as fast as he is at his age, I will be thrilled...he's a great supporter and running partner.
Very happy with the PR, it was a great course and the conditions were pretty good too (mid-70s, calm wind). The winning time was 15:32 which is ridiculous. This race is a good indicator that my training is working which is all I can ask for. Congratulations to Laura W. and Andrew on races well run tonight.
