The weather was really good. Even better than yesterday's weather. It was 75 degrees and felt good. There was even a slight breeze. I thought I did really well in my pacing today. My watch had the course at 3.09 miles, but I'll just go with 5k. My mile times were 5:47, 5:40, and 6:00. I really did good at judging effort the first mile. I was just slowly passing people until I caught No mans land. When I saw my pace around .5 miles, I didn't think I would keep that pace, but I surprised myself by keeping that pace. I could tell I was closing the gap on everyone else. I then caught them one by one. I also did a really good surge on the 2nd lap to break away just like last 5k time trial. The surge was a slight uphill. I caught up to Jamal where we both pushed each other to have a good finish. I thought I was going to get a bad cramp, but I didn't. I didn't have that great of last .25- .5 miles of the race. But I did sprint at the end of pick up the pace a little before that. I actually brought down my average pace by 2 seconds in the last 300 meters. Overall, it was a good race. Even though, I don't like speed work in the summer, this gave me a lot of confidence. I didn't know I had that in myself. I surprised myself and am ready for XC to start. The weather did help a lot which I am thankful for. Give me good weather in the fall, spikes, race atmosphere/adrenaline and I think I can get in the low 17s this year.
