Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
Before the race I felt very prepared. I got a good amount of sleep and hydrated/ate properly. I was satisfied with how my workouts have been going, so I was ready to run a decent time. During the race I had a great pack going with a few teammates. We kept a good pace and I felt very relaxed. Coming up to the 5k mark, my diaphragm began to bother and I could feel the side stitch I've been getting for the last three months beginning to happen. I tried to focus on my breathing but the pain persisted and worsened more and more. Had to drop from the pack and the rest of the race went downhill from there. My finishing time was 30:00. It's frustrating because I know that I'm capable of running so much faster but this diaphragm issue is holding me back. It has definitely gotten better from how it's been three months ago, but I still get this pain every once and a while and it's affecting my workouts and races. I plan on going back to physical therapy twice a week until the pain completely goes away. This race is now in the past so I'm going to not let this affect me and focus on the future. I'm more than ready to have a great season but I need to fix this diaphragm issue in order to help me reach my potential.
