Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
The weather was cold, windy, and rainy but my legs were pretty fresh going into today. i felt pretty good on the warmup but not as good as I did before Princeton and Paul short. I heard the course was muddy but I had no idea. I've never run a course with so many deep puddles. I'm talking anywhere from knee to waste deep. I tried not to go out too hard the first mile, so I lost connection with the group almost immediately. I felt like I ran smart pretty much the whole race and never died or felt too tired. It would have been nice to practice pack running with the team but I just can't go out as hard as some of the other guys can. Because of the cold weather my breathing wasn't even too difficult. My biggest mistake I feel is that I surged a bit too hard around 2.5-3 miles and that tired me out a little bit. I still felt like I kept a good pace the second half of the race though. I wasn't passed by more than 2 or 3 people the entire race. In the last mile I fell in a puddle which sort of killed the momentum I had, so that probably added a few seconds to my time, but I got back up and finished with all I had. I was a little surprised to see the clock reach high 28 minutes by the time I could see it but looking back the conditions were not meant for fast times. I wouldn't call it my best race but I have certainly done much worse. Looking back this season was certainly an enormous improvement from last year, lowering my PR by 2 minutes over the course of a year. I didn't even get much of a base this summer due to nagging injury. All things considered I am happy with the way this season went and I know that I still have more gains to make in my last five seasons of college running
