quality run... in the dark

November 12, 2014 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: upper 50s and sun setting on a great autumn day

Comments:
After lingering too long at the winter track meeting to glimpse the AU workout for Nike folks, I dropped my car in Bethesda to get the tire repaired. At 5:15ish, I headed onto the G-Town Branch trail and took it to the 0.0 mile mark in Silver Spring. Felt great once I'd loosened up and was making good time on the way back when i ran into Jim Hage who flagged me down and ran with me from Conn Ave back to BCC. Flattered to have the attention of this DC running icon, but it slowed me up for that mile and left the second half of my run feeling unfulfilled. Still, I really enjoyed this run and always feel fast running int he dark (and it was very dark along the unlit trail with the sun well down by the second half of the route. Got some half mile splits: 3:44, 3:47, 3:40, 3:39, 7:22 (turn around at 26:22) 7:05, 3:29, 3:27, -, 7:35(with Jim) [51:42 total for a negative split of a minute+, seeing as I missed 20 seconds or so of the first ~half mile through the tunnel on the way out]. The point is, I felt good, even if I wasn't making an effort to drop the pace or go brisk. A satisfying run, and my car was ready when I got back. I need to keep getting these sorts of runs.
